║ III. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT DLM/RSA ║
╚══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
QUESTION #1 : How do I add a new symbol to my stock database?
ANSWER : New stocks can be added to the stock database in three
ways. The automated update process will add new stocks if the
update time frame is "ONE YEAR". New stocks will not be added
when the time frame is "ONE DAY" or "N DAYS".
A stock symbol can also be manually added from the
TABLE FUNCTION window by selecting the "ADD NEW STOCK SYMBOL"
option and then entering the new symbol name in the window
at the bottom of the screen.
A stock symbol can also be manually added from the
EARNINGS window by hitting ALT & F4.

QUESTION #2 : How do I change a stock symbol name in my stock database?
ANSWER : A stock symbol name can be manually changed from the
TABLE FUNCTION window by selecting the "SYMBOL NAME" field
and then hitting the PLUS key and then entering the new
symbol name in the window at the bottom of the screen.
A stock symbol name can be manually changed from the
EARNINGS window by hitting ALT & F5 and then entering the
new symbol name in the window at the bottom of the screen.

QUESTION #6 : How many stocks can I have in my stock database?
ANSWER : The maximum number of stocks you can process depends
on the amount of available memory below 640K on you system.
This value will vary from one system to another. You will
usually be able to process from 80 to 110 stocks in a stock
database.
Expanded memory may be used to process additional stocks.
With use of expanded memory, up to 1300 stocks can be
processed. Each additional 100 stocks requires approximately
256K bytes of expanded memory.
If you desire to process more stocks, simply use more
than one stock database. The same table function file can
be used with each stock database. A separate parameter file
will be required for each stock database containing the name
of the corresponding stock database.
EXAMPLE : The RSA.BAT file contains the command: RELATION PARMS.DAT
This first parameter file "PARMS.DAT" contains parameters
including the Stock file name "STOCK.DAT" and the Table
function file name "TABLE.DAT".
To create a second parameter file "PARM2.DAT" with a
Stock file name "STOC2.DAT" go to the OUTPUT FILES window
and change the parameter file name to "PARM2.DAT" and the
Stock file name to "STOC2.DAT". Then output these two new
files to disk. Finally create a new bat file "RSA2.BAT"
containing the command "RELATION PARM2.DAT".
QUESTION #7 : What is the difference between the documentation in the
shareware version and the printed documentation?
ANSWER : The printed documentation is available for an additional
charge of $4. This documentation is the same as the
documentation on the shareware disk file with one exception.
The printed documentation also contains over a dozen printed
charts with illustration buy and sell signals marked on them.
QUESTION #8 : How do I process daily stock quotes?
ANSWER : The DLM/RSA "AUTOMATED UPDATE" window is used for
processing daily stock quotes. First go to the
"PARAMETERS" window and increase the "LAST DAY UPDATED"
by one day to match the current date. Then go to the
"AUTOMATED UPDATE" window and use the following parameters:
FILE NAME TO SCAN : C:\PCPLUS\PCPLUS.LOG
SCREEN PAUSE : END OF SCREEN
UPDATE TIME FRAME : ONE DAY
FIRST UPDATE DAY :
LAST UPDATE DAY :
LAST DAY UPDATED :
SYMBOL COLUMN : 00
CLOSE COLUMN : 00
VOLUME COLUMN : 00
LOG OPTION : LOG ALL DATA
Set the "FILE NAME" to match the name of the file containing
your ascii file of daily stock quotes. The "FIRST UPDATE DAY",
"LAST UPDATE DAY", and "LAST DAY UPDATED" will not need to be
changed if you first set the date correctly in the "PARAMETERS".
window. Hit ENTER after the parameters are changed. Another
window will be displayed with the contents of your data file
scrolling by. After the end of the file is reached a message
will be displayed indicating how many stocks were successfully
updated. If the automated update was successful, then go to the
"OUTPUT FILES" window and write the parameter file and stock file
to disk.

QUESTION #9 : How do I process historical stock data?
ANSWER : The DLM/RSA "AUTOMATED UPDATE" window is used for
processing historical stock data. Use the following parameters:
FILE NAME TO SCAN : C:\PCPLUS\PCPLUS.LOG
SCREEN PAUSE : END OF SCREEN
UPDATE TIME FRAME : ONE YEAR
FIRST UPDATE DAY :
LAST UPDATE DAY :
LAST DAY UPDATED :
SYMBOL COLUMN : 00
CLOSE COLUMN : 00
VOLUME COLUMN : 00
LOG OPTION : LOG ALL DATA
Set the "FILE NAME" to match the name of the file containing
your ascii file of historical stock quotes. The "FIRST UPDATE DAY",
"LAST UPDATE DAY", and "LAST DAY UPDATED" will be automatically
calculated when the update time frame is set to "ONE YEAR".
Hit ENTER after the parameters are changed. Another window
will be displayed with the contents of your data file
scrolling by. After the end of the file is reached a message
will be displayed indicating how many days were successfully
updated. If the automated update was successful, then go to the
"OUTPUT FILES" window and write the stock file to disk.

QUESTION #10: I have stock data from a source not supported by the
DLM/RSA Automated Update window. Is there any way that
DLM/RSA can process the data?
ANSWER : Free converter programs can be obtained from the DLM
Investment BBS. If the converter program currently available
will not work with your data file, then upload a sample data
file to the BBS and DLM will attempt to develop a converter
program for it.
QUESTION #11: How do I process a stock split?
ANSWER : To ajust the stock data for a stock split, first go to
the PARAMETERS window and set the stock split parameters.
Then go to the UPDATE ONE YEAR window and hit F9 to switch
to update mode. Now use the down arrow key to go down to
the last price which needs to be adjusted for the stock
split and then hit the TAB key. Then go to the EARNINGS
window to adjust the earnings data. Hit F9 to switch to
update mode. Then hit the TAB key to adjust the earnings
data. Finally go to the OUTPUT FILES window and write the
stock file to disk to save the updates.

QUESTION #13: Can RSA use my MetaStock data files?
ANSWER : Yes. The MetaStock data files can be used as input to
RSA as follows:
A) Copy the RELATION.EXE file to a directory in your PATH.
B) Change the RSA TABLE.DAT file to use a full drive and
directory file name such as "C:\RSA\TABLE.DAT".
C) Start RSA with a RSAM.BAT file which contains :
RELATION C:\RSA\PARMS.DAT M 1
1) C:\RSA\PARMS.DAT is the fully qualified RSA
parameter file
2) The "M" parameter indicates to RSA to process
input from MetaStock files rather than the
RSA STOCK.DAT file.
3) The "1" parameter indicates to RSA to start
input with MetaStock stock number 1. Do to the
640K DOS memory restriction, it may not be possible
to input all the MetaStock files into RSA at once.
To access the additional MetaStock files, simply
indicate to RSA to skip the first N files as follows:
RELATION C:\RSA\PARMS.DAT M 90
In this example RSA will begin reading at MetaStock
file number 90.
4) The RSA program must be started in the directory
that contains the MetaStock files "MASTER"
and "*.DAT".
5) To process the RSA stock earnings data, see Question
#15 above.
QUESTION #14: Can RSA use my Chartpro data files?
ANSWER : Yes. The *.PRO data files can be used as input to
RSA as follows:
A) Copy the RELATION.EXE file to a directory in your PATH.
B) Change the RSA TABLE.DAT file to use a full drive and
directory file name such as "C:\RSA\TABLE.DAT".
C) Start RSA with a RSAC.BAT file which contains :
DIR *.PRO > MASTER
RELATION C:\RSA\PARMS.DAT C 1
1) C:\RSA\PARMS.DAT is the fully qualified RSA
parameter file
2) The "C" parameter indicates to RSA to process
input from .PRO files rather than the
RSA STOCK.DAT file.
3) The "1" parameter indicates to RSA to start
input with the stock number 1. Do to the 640K
DOS memory restriction, it may not be possible
to input all the .PRO files into RSA at once.
To access the additional .PRO files, simply
indicate to RSA to skip the first N files as follows:
RELATION C:\RSA\PARMS.DAT C 90
In this example RSA will begin reading at .PRO
file number 90.
4) The RSA program must be started in the directory
that contains the .PRO files.
5) To process the RSA stock earnings data, see Question
#15 above.

QUESTION #15: What are the autoexec.bat and config.sys requirements
for RSA?
ANSWER : RSA requires no change to either of these files if
installation is done in one directory as specified in the
installation instructions. An alternative method for
installation is as follows:
Install RSA.BAT in directory C:\BAT
Install RELATION.EXE in directory C:\EXE
Install other files in directory C:\RSA
Modify autoexec.bat path statement as follows:
AUTOEXEC.BAT
------------
PATH C:\BAT;C:\EXE;C:\DOS;C:\
QUESTION #16: Can I update earnings data from an ASCII file?
ANSWER : Yes. The ASCII log file of earnings data created in the
EARNINGS window by hitting the F5 key can be used to update
the earnings data as an alternative to using the EARNINGS
window. Do not delete any lines or change the column
positions of the data. Rename the file to name "EPS.DAT"
and copy it to each directory used to run RSA. Then from
the EARNINGS window hit the F10 key to import the file data.
